Best Practices
We go above and beyond many DOT safety regulations to make sure your trip is completed without an incident. DOT regulations state that a driver cannot drive more than 10 hours at a time without a mandatory 8-hour break before they can resume duty. At Sunway Charters, for most trips, we find it best to give our drivers a 9-hour rest window.
For many longer trips where 2 drivers would be needed, we go through a relay procedure. Rather than have a second driver ride on the same bus, we typically send the second driver ahead to the rendezvous point a day or so ahead to be as fresh as possible when the charter arrives.
For safety reasons, we no longer book trips that travel through the night in lieu of a hotel, unless the logistics of the trip necessitate such an arrangement. We believe this conservative approach is in the best interest of our drivers, our customers, and the motoring public.
